Voyager Dragon’s upgrade for Ultima 3, which adds MIDI music, a frame limiter, new hotkeys, improved sound effects, and numerous new graphics modes to the MS-DOS version of the game. Also included in Sosaria Mod, which allows you to play through the story of Ultima 3 using the Lands of Lord British (from Ultima 1) as the setting.
The MIDI music from the Ultima 3 Upgrade, for your listening pleasure.
MP3 versions of the music from Ultima 3, for your listening pleasure.
Another of Voyager Dragon’s excellent upgrade packages, this patch for Ultima 3 adds MIDI music and numerous new graphics modes to the MS-DOS version of the game, including:
- 256-colour VGA
- 16-colour EGA
- 16-colour Composite CGA and…
- 4-colour CGA
Here are a handful of comparison images:
Previously, these were benefits enjoyed by Apple and Commodore players only. Additionally, the upgrade adds new hotkeys to Ultima 3 to allow for easier game restores, menu access, and exiting; the game’s autosave feature can also be disabled. Also included is a frame limiter, so that the game doesn’t run overly fast on modern systems. And with version 3.1, the upgrade also replaces the numeric moon phases with actual moon phase graphics!
Hey there! A few updates/corrections:
* The “Produced by” is just me, Voyager Dragon. There is no team.
* The code is now hosted on bitbucket: https://bitbucket.org/mcmagi/ultima-exodus/overview
* The “MIDI Upgrade” package is actually just the MIDI music from the upgrade for personal playback, but it’s not an upgrade package. I also have MP3 versions which are probably more palatable today.
* The same for U2/U5 upgrades.
Thanks!
Okay, I’ll make those changes.
This one is done. I’ve made a note to loop back and to the U2 and U5 entries in the near future.
Thanks!
I’ve hit the other two; let me know if I missed anything else.
Cheers and thanks! One note: Seems the CGA comparison images are mislabeled “EGA”?
Where is the binpat exe to patch the files with the *.pat??
Honestly, just use Pix’s Ultima Patcher to apply this. Takes all the hassle out of it.
